Language
The language of the site itself — its menus, labels and messages — and nothing else: it does not change the translation under each ayah, which is chosen below. Outside English, the surahs are named in Arabic alone, as they are written in the muṣḥaf.
Translation
The Arabic is the Qur’an; what follows is a translation of its meaning, and the translator is always named beneath it. Up to 4 can be set under each ayah, in any of the languages the corpus holds — chosen here by how each renders one ayah, or beside any ayah in the reader under “Other translations”.

Reading light
The same four lamps are in the bar at the top of every page. The light is the reader’s choice rather than the operating system’s: a muṣḥaf is often read in a dark room on a device set to light, and as often on a bright morning on one set to dark.

Reciter
Recitation streams from the Quran.com audio CDN. Every reciter here carries word-level timings, so the word being recited lights up as it is read.
Tafsir
Which works you keep to hand. They are the tabs of the tafsir panel and of the tafsir page; any other is one press away there under “All works”. The mark at the end of a row keeps a work or puts it away.
Two short works to begin with, and three that go further.
To begin with
At length
The classical library is tafsir.app’s (الباحث القرآني) — digitised and proofread by Nuqayah — and is kept on this site with their permission. The short works in translation are read from the Tafsir API; the rest from the Quran.com corpus.
